We were first introduced to our clients as they completed the purchase of a dilapidated post-war building on a long, narrow site within the historic Barnsbury Conservation Area. After initially exploring a refurbishment and extension of the existing building, the existing structure was in such a poor state that a new build home was the most financially viable option.
The ability to reconsider the house from the ground up gave us the ability to adjust the form and fenestration of the building. This was essential as the neighbouring Grade II listed villas only allowed for windows on 2 elevations.
The result of these tight constraints is a project that is a compact, modern home flooded with natural light via a series of carefully considered roof lights. This is complemented by a neutral material palette carefully selected by the clients, ourselves and interior designers Marlo.
The finished house provides a lovely home for our clients as they downsized and started the next chapter of their family life.
